Ujima Blues Foundation proudly sponsors several national blues events. Two of those are The Throwdown and BluesGeek. Throwdown encourages exploration and development of competitions in the realm of blues dancing. Some of the competitions, like Mix n’ Match and Strictly, have developed over the years are well-known in the Blues dance community. Others are brand new and developed by the Throwdown organizers through workshopping and user feedback.
Throwdown Comp Lab at BluesGeek
BluesGeek is a learning-centric Blues dance environment, which means competitions as a practice don’t necessarily fit within the purview for the weekend. This is why we developed Student Idiom Exhibitions. That said, we feel there is absolutely room for workshopping new ideas at BluesGeek – and so Throwdown Comp Lab was born!
This year, BluesGeek is hosting workshop & feedback time for one of Throwdown’s new competitions.
In a nutshell:
- We give you ALL the info about the new comp (see below) ahead of time for you to practice a bit at home.
- You attend comp lab – As walk you through the comp, this is a good time to ask the Throwdown organizer questions you have about the comp and give them feedback.
- To compete in a competition you helped develop, you can attend Throwdown! (Note: There is no formal competition at BluesGeek beyond what you workshop during Comp Lab.)
THIS IS AN ADD-ON. Entry into Throwdown Comp Lab is $10.
2020 Competition: TBA
